Churchill family papers, 1786-1853.

A collection of papers gathered by the Churchill family of Newington, Connecticut. The collection has been divided into the following: miscellaneous, financial, letters, poetry/verse, and journal. Miscellaneous contains a military appointment for John Churchill. Financial contains a variety of receipts and accounts. Letters were written to Polly (Maryann's nickname), Chester, Julia (1831-1870), and Charlotte Churchill. Among the poems is "The Dying Maryann" (unsigned) and pieces by M (possibly Maryann), Julia (1792-1822), and Harriet Churchill. The author of the journal is not indicated. Maryann, John, Charlotte, and Harriet were the children of Samuel Churchill (1757-1834). Julia (1792-1822) and Chester were the children of Samuel's brother, Solomon Churchill (1764-1842). Chester was the father of the younger Julia (1831-1870).
